Get to Know Dallas Makeup Artist: Melisa J. Beauty

It's Wedding Wednesday, and I am back with my first introduction for 2016! Last year, I had the honor of meeting this extraordinary Dallas make-up artist, Melisa Jean Charles of Melisa J Beauty. I found her on Instagram, believe it or not! We met, chatted, and I instantly fell in love with her personality along with her beautiful work. What I love most about the way that Melisa applies makeup is that she doesn't lose her clients. She really does use makeup as an enhancement. Each bride leaves her chair, still looking like themselves, which I think is so important. Read more below about Melisa, and I've included some recent images from a wedding we worked together with our beautiful bride Delores.

Tell us a little about your company.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to your couples?

Do what makes you happy! Many times couples try very hard to please everyone and forget that it is their wedding. The wedding day is a day to celebrate their love and it should be an extension of their personality.

What inspired you to become a bridal makeup artist?

I love weddings and most importantly I believe in marriage. It's a beautiful thing to see two people come together as one.

I actually didn't plan on specializing in bridal or even becoming a makeup artist at that. One of my old friends from high school was getting married and we met up a few weeks before the big day. She would always compliment me on my makeup. When I asked her who was doing her wedding makeup, to my amazement she said that she didn't plan on doing makeup since she doesn't wear any. I immediately told her I would it. We scheduled a trial to make sure she liked her look. Due to her military training, she wasn't able to make it to the trial. She called and told me " I trust you, just do my makeup on the wedding day". And when the day, arrived I was so excited and nervous, it was my very first time doing makeup for a bride. I did her makeup that day and she loved it. An overwhelming feeling of joy took over me as I was doing her makeup. That day as I left the hotel and headed to her ceremony, I knew I had to become a makeup artist.

How do you keep up with the current trends in the wedding industry?

I love magazines! Not just bridal but beauty magazines in general. But I also depend on my expertise as an artist, not all trends all for everyone. I want my brides to look timeless. When they look at their wedding photos 30 years later, I want them to say "Wow, I looked I looked stunning." I always tell my brides, you should feel like you on your wedding day. There is no, one wedding look that fits all.
